The Williams Lake Air Quality Roundtable is a group of people working together to enhance protection and stewardship of the air we share.
Purpose: Enable inclusive, equitable, multi-party communication related to air quality that is science-based and recognizes environmental, social, health, economic and Indigenous perspectives. The Williams Lake Air Quality Roundtable (WLAQR) commits to uphold the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and redress reconciliation locally as recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action.
With the support of the Province of BC, Scout Island Nature Centre, the City of Williams Lake, the Cariboo Regional District, Permitted Industries and other member organizations, the table has been working on air quality management for a number of decades.
Roundtable revisioning is a current and on-going process. Aiming to increase inclusion and effectiveness, the WLAQRT hopes to explore ways of re-building from the ground up to include a wider diversity of voices representative of the broader community.
Recognizing the need to co-create a framework and action plan in collaboration and consultation with local First Nations the Roundtable through it’s acknowledgement of UNDRIP is committing to creating a culturally-aware space, based on mutual respect, reciprocity, responsibility and understanding.
